In the fall of 2005, Cessna made the commitment to rejuvenate the Citation 750 Integrated Diagnostics System (IDS). Advances in personal computer technology had made it very difficult to obtain computers that were capable of interfacing with the existing Data Monitoring Unit (DMU). Changes in operating systems forced system driver updates for every new release. Revisions to the aircraft’s electrical system resulted in changes to the Logic Modules, which were not supported by the software. The software provided manual operations only, so the system could not be left unattended.
When engineers generated the new requirements, they focused on two main objectives. The first was to achieve hardware and software independence from specific personal computers and operating systems, and the second was to provide support for all current (and future) Logic Modules. As a result, a standard Ethernet networking connection was selected to serve as the new DMU interface. A new operating system supports all onboard hardware, as well as allowing unattended (or standalone) operation. A standard VGA monitor, keyboard, and mouse can be connected for local access.
Existing 1U632-100 DMUs can be converted at a great savings. As part of the conversion, several major components are replaced including the analog and digital processors. Additionally, the entire top panel subassembly is replaced. A fresh battery is installed before the unit undergoes final tests, after which a new warranty is issued. An extensive software update adds functionality such as updated Logic Module definitions, sophisticated triggering, and enhanced data recording and playback capabilities.
