Sigma Tek, Inc. Receives FAA-PMA Approval on Piston Air Pump

AUGUSTA, KS – Sigma Tek’s receives FAA-PMA approval on the new 1U478-003 AEON Piston Air Pump.  The AEON pump is a radical change to the existing dry air pumps in the general aviation market today.  This clean-sheet design incorporates a dual action “floating” piston, a unique patented crankshaft drive assembly that is isolated from the pump’s air chamber, and twin 8-valve valveplates.  This revolutionary pump is a direct replacement for vacuum and pressure pumps, including most 200 series and all 1U128 rotary vane pumps. 

This pump provides unprecedented long life, as the materials selected in its construction minimize wear to the point that it practically insignificant.  This promotes a cleaner vacuum system, as there are no particles or dust to contaminate the air system or gyros coming from the pump.  Lifetime permanently sealed bearings in the bi-directional drive assembly will not be adversely affected by leaking garlock seals and the pump’s isolated air chamber is tolerant to hose and air system contaminates. 

In development for more than 2 years, the 1U478-003 AEON Piston Air Pump will present aircraft owners many hours of maintenance free, uninterrupted service.  As a result, Sigma Tek is going to warranty this pump for a period of 5 year / 2000 hours (whichever occurs first).

 We are so confident in this dry air pump and it’s ability to provide a clean air supply for air-driven instruments, we are already making plans for a larger version for aircraft with pneumatic de-ice systems.
